Useful information to prepare the SE

Information and Suggestions for students
  • The aim of the SE is to elaborate a scientific topic which is not published in text books (the topic has to be recent and interesting from the scientific point of view)
  • The final Wiki Web Page should be both scientific and easy to read for veterinary students
  • Students should look for articles with Impact Factors relevant to the topic. At least five articles are needed with one comprehensive review article. Without a review article further articles needed.
  • Just like in any scientific articles, references should be inserted in the text. Important statements should always be followed by citation. One article can be cited more than once.
  • Students should meet the supervisor at least once.
  • Students should present the outline of their topic as well as the cited articles before starting to put the SE together. This is important for finding good articles and the good direction.
  • The Wiki Pages are created by Péter Üveges. Students will be able to edit this page only. To access the page, students should use their own physiology login name and password.
  • The URL of the Wiki Page will be sent out by email.
  • Students keep contact with supervisor personally or by email. After significant changes in text students should notify supervisors by email.
  • Supervisor's suggestions are given personally, by email, or editing directly the Wiki Page.
  • Please note that final formatting and solving copyright problems takes more time than expected.

Copyright consideration
  • Only SEs with no figure-related copyright problems will be accepted
figures come from freely usable media files (e.g. from Wikimedia Commons)
original figures from someone else with the permission of the author or the copyright owner (permission should be presented)
    figures prepared (re-drown) by students

Formatting requirements
  • Headings should be used to organize text
  • A table of contents should be inserted to the top
  • Citations should have the following format for one, two, or more authors as follows:
    (Schiller, 1987)
    (Schiller and Sandell, 1987)
    (Schiller et al, 1987)
Schiller et al (1987) showed ...
  • The literature should be in alphabetic order in the following format:
Schiller, P. H.; Sandell, J. H.; Maunsell, J. H. R. (1987): The Effect of Frontal Eye Field and Superior Colliculus Lesions on Saccadic Latencies in the Rhesus Monkey. Journal of Neurophysiology 57: (4) 1033-1036
  • Figures should be numbered and each should be referenced in the text.

Examples for Wiki codes:
  • Inserting a table of contents:
    <<TableOfContents(3)>>
